| Distribución Sur de Estados Unidos hasta Sur América. En Costa Rica en ambas vertientes, pero más frecuente en el pacífico, en climas secos, 0-500 (1000) m. |

| Hojas Hojas simples, verticiladas (4-6 por nudo), 5-40 x 0.5-4 mm, lineares a estrecho oblanceoladas, ápice agudo, base decurrente, margen entero continuo con el pecíolo. | |||||
| Flores Flores 2-3 mm de largo, blancas, axilares, 2-6 por nudo; pedicelos 4-14 mm de largo; sépalos 5, 2-2.5 mm, libres; pétalos ausentes; estambres 3; ovario súpero, 3-locular, estilos 3. | |||||
| Frutos Frutos cápsula loculicida, 3-5 valvas, 2.5-3 mm de largo. | |||||
| Semillas Semillas 20-30, 0.5 mm de ancho, reniformes, pardo-rojizas y lustrosas. | |||||
| Diagnóstico Se reconoce por su habito herbáceo, las hojas lineares, verticiladas y flores axilares pequeñas, fácil de confundir con especies de la familia Caryophyllaceae (p.ej. Spergula) o Rubiaceae (p.ej. Oldelandia). |
