Yerba mora (Las hojas jovenes, y los frutos maduros cocidos son comestibles. Los frutos contienen glicoalcaloides esteroidales como solanina y demiscina, los cuales son tóxicos por vía oral, y al ser ingeridos liberan alcaminas que producen estupefacción e insensibilidad. En Venezuela a la infusión de las hojas y frutos la consideran analgésica, antibiótica, carminativa y vulneraria. En Las Guayanas utilizan la decocción de la planta entera para purificar la sangre, y la emplean como antiespasmódico y vermífugo; tópicamente la usan en casos de cardialgia, nefralgia y úlceras. Las raíces hervidas en agua, mezcladas con jugo de limón y una cucharadita de sal la administran contra la malaria. En Hawai utilizan la infusión de las hojas y el jugo de los frutos como remedio en casos de asma, erupciones cutáneas, y le atribuyen propiedades estomáquicas y vulnerarias)
